Yams needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start? Foster or forever home wanted, meet Yams. Yams was brought in as a stray to the San Bernardino Shelter on March 12. He was a healthy, handsome boy weighing 84 pounds. Fast forward 11 days, and Yams was appearing to have symptoms consistent to an Upper Respiratory Infection. Since San Bernardino is one of the many shelters that does not have a veterinarian on staff, these poor dogs are often times misdiagnosed and continue to decline. Yams was started on meds normally used for treating a URI. On March 25, Yams was observed in his kennel appearing very depressed and his nasal discharge and cough had worsened. Further diagnostics would show, Yams had lost 16 pounds since intake, he was running a 104.7 fever and a respiratory PCR test showed he had mycoplasma, bordetella and pneumovirus (precursor to pneumonia). Volunteers and networkers worked frantically to bring Yams to the attention of rescues. As soon as we heard the danger he was in, we knew we had to help. Yams has been with us since March 31 and is resting and recovering in the hospital. We will update on his recovery in the coming days. We know very little about Yams since he is so new to us. His finder that brought him to the shelter said he was very friendly, playful and easy to leash. As he starts to feel better and we get to know him more, we will update his information. If you are interested in meeting Yams, please fill out an application at labradorsandfriends.org. Yams is located in Southern California.
